🏈 Welcome Back ! The clash of quarterbacks—the seasoned veteran Joe Flacco of the Indianapolis Colts takes on the win-less Jacksonville Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence!

Let’s break down this showdown like we’re dissecting a playbook: Which one of these guys am I going to chose to headline this roster? Here we Go!

Joe Flacco (Indianapolis Colts)

• Recent Performance: Flacco stepped in for the injured Anthony Richardson and led the Colts to a strong win against the previously undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers. He threw for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns. Not bad for a guy nearing his 40s!
• Strengths: Flacco’s experience and poise can’t be overlooked. He’s been a Comeback Player of the Year, and he knows how to navigate tough defenses.
• Challenges: The Jaguars have edge rushers Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker, but their secondary lacks star power. If he gets time in the pocket, he could exploit that weakness.

Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars)

• Struggles: Lawrence is still finding his footing this season. The Jaguars haven’t secured a win yet, and his completion percentage is hovering around 53.3%.
• Opportunity: Fortunately for Lawrence, the Colts’ defense isn’t stacked with Pro Bowlers. Their pass rush isn’t fearsome, which means Lawrence’s weapons—like running back Travis Etienne and wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr., Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis, and Devin Duvernay—could have room to shine or not.

The Verdict

I am going with the experience of Joe Flacco in this one and rostering a double stack.

Joe Flacco (Indianapolis Colts)

• 2024 Season Performance:
  • Joe Flacco, is now with the Indianapolis Colts, he stepped in for the injured Anthony Richardson and made an impact. In one game, he threw for 168 yards and connected for 2 touchdowns—showing that his experience and poise still matter.

Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars)

• Return to Action:
  • In the latest game, Trevor Lawrence showcased resilience despite modest yardage. For the first time this season, he fired off multiple touchdown passes. Early in the game, he connected with rookie Brian Thomas for a two-yard strike, and later found Christian Kirk for an eight-yard score in the third quarter. That Kirk touchdown briefly gave the Jaguars a 20-17 lead, but unfortunately, their defense couldn’t halt C.J. Stroud during the Texans’ final drive.

Here’s My Criteria for Quarterback:

1) Can they put up 325 passing yards

2) Can they throw for 3 TDs (When you add criteria 1 and 2 together, that gets me to 28 DK points)

3) Can they rush for 20 yards if so (All 3 criteria together put me over 30 DK points

I landed on Joe Flacco being the guy in Week 5 and will be low-owned by the field. what a great angle, he can spread the ball around, and continue the Flacco comeback.

Quarterback: Joe Flacco ($5,500)

Joe Flacco’s 2024 Season Performance:

• Passer Rating: Flacco has made an impact despite limited playing time. His pass rating 66.8
• Yards and Touchdowns: In one game he threw for 168 yards! and connected for 2 TD’s

Next Game Against the Jaguars:

The Jaguars’ defense is undergoing some changes this year. With defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen at the helm and a shift to a 4-3 base formation. The defense has struggled. I don’t see them improving with this game.

Running Backs: Derrick Henry ($7,800) & D’Andre Swift ($5,700)

Derrick Henry’s 2024 Season Performance:

• Fantasy Points: So far this season, Henry has put up 88.5 fantasy points in his last four games
• Rushing Yards: He’s been a workhorse on the ground, with 80 rushes for 480 yards (averaging an impressive 6 yards per attempt).!
• Touchdowns: Henry has found the end zone six times—with a combination of rushing and receiving touchdowns.

Last Game Against the Buffalo Bills:

• Henry put on a show for the Baltimore Ravens. He ran for a whopping 199 yards and found the end zone both on the ground and through the air. On 24 carries, he bulldozed his way to a touchdown, and he also secured all three of his targets for an additional 10 yards and another score.
• The Ravens dominated the Buffalo Bills with a 35-10 win, and Henry’s performance was nothing short of spectacular.

Next Game Against the Colts:

His ceiling projected fantasy points for Week 5 is 22.9. I think He will be high owned but I’m not passing on him against the Colts and he should smash. He might just exceed His projection!

D’Andre Swift’s 2024 Season Performance:

• Fantasy Points: So far this season, D’Andre Swift has accumulated 35.9 fantasy points. While he hasn’t generated massive fantasy value, he’s a dual-threat player who can impact both the running and passing game
• Rushing Yards: Swift has carried the ball 53 times for a total of 161 rushing yards. His average yards per carry currently stands at 3!
• Receiving: In addition to his rushing contributions, Swift has been effective as a receiver. He’s caught six passes for 46 receiving yards!

Last Game Against the RAMS:

• Against the Los Angeles Rams, Swift showcased his dual-threat ability. He totaled 165 yards between rushing (93 yards on 16 carries) and receiving (72 yards on seven receptions). His performance was a key factor in the Bears’ 24-18 victory.

Next Game Against the Carolina Panthers :

D’Andre Swift and the Chicago Bears are set to face the Carolina Panthers in his next game. The Panthers currently have the 29th-ranked run defense, allowing an average of 148.8 rushing yards per game. That’s like a green light for running backs!

Given Swift’s dual-threat ability, he could have a significant impact both on the ground and as a receiver. I expect him to break loose for some big plays! !

Wide Receivers: Michael Pittman ($6,000), Brian Thomas Jr. ($5,900) Josh Downs ($5,100)

Michael Pittman’s 2024 Season Performance:

• Fantasy Points: Over the past three games, Pittman has made 13 receptions on 21 targets, racking up a total of 170 receiving yards and 17 fantasy points!

Last Game Against the Pittsburgh Steelers:

• In his most recent game against Pittsburgh, was his best game so far in Week 4, where he hauled in six catches for 113 yards, earning a whopping 11.3 fantasy points.

Next Game Against the Jacksonville Jaguars:

Projected Ceiling Fantasy Points: 21.3. He could be a difference-maker against the Jaguars’ defense. I expect he will go well over his projections. He is part of a double-Stack with Flacco.

Brian Thomas Jr’s 2024 Season Performance:

• Fantasy Points: So far this season. Thomas as of now, is ranked 69th overall in the NFL and 15th at his position. He’s accumulated 57.8 points so far this season, averaging 14.5 points per game. Not too shabby for a rookie!

Last Game Against the Houston Texans:

• Thomas Jr. had an impressive showing. Week 4 matchup against the Houston Texans! During that game, he made six catches for a total of 86 receiving yards and TD. I think he well have more catches in this game. I am looking for 30 Fantasy points.

Next Game Against the Indianapolis Colts:

• The Indianapolis Colts’ pass defense has had a bit of a rough start this season. As of now, they’re ranked 26th in the league when it comes to pass defense, allowing an average of 235 passing yards per game. Not exactly the stoutest defense against the air attack. Thomas is included in this lineup because he has the potential to score big. He’s my bring-back candidate—score, baby, score!

Josh Downs ’s 2024 Season Performance:

• Fantasy Points: So far this season, Downs has accumulated 16.4 fantasy points, averaging 8.2 points per game. He’s ranked 70th at his position and 195th overall in the NFL.

Last Game Against the Pittsburgh Steelers:

• In Downs’ last game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Downs had a standout performance: eight catches for 82 yards and a touchdown, earning him a solid 22.4 fantasy points¹.

Next Game Against the Jacksonville Jaguars :

The next matchup is favorable for Downs. The Jaguars have the 31st-ranked pass defense, allowing an average of 272.8 passing yards per game. Jacksonville has allowed over 100 receiving yards to three different players this season, and seven players have caught touchdown passes against them! It Downs Turn.

TE: Colby Parkinson ($3,700)

Colby Parkinson’s 2024 Season Performance:

• Overall, he’s accumulated 11.3 fantasy points, averaging 2.8 points per game. In the grand NFL tapestry, he’s ranked 231st overall and 21st at his position. This should be his breakout game.

Next Game Against the Green Bay Packers:

He faces the Green Bay Packers. The Packers’ pass defense ranks 24th, allowing an average of 230.5 passing yards per game. I need a TD from him to make this lineup roar.

Flex: Josh Jacobs (6,400)

Josh Jacobs’s 2024 Season Performance:

• Fantasy Points: So far this season, Jacobs has accumulated 36.1 fantasy points, averaging 10.2 points per game. Among running backs, he’s ranked 25th, and overall in the league, he sits at 83rd!

Last Game Against the  Minnesota Vikings:

• Jacobs had a solid outing against Minnesota Vikings, rushing for 51 yards and catching four passes for 27 yards. His total fantasy points for that game were 11.8!

Next Game Against the Los Angeles RAMs:

Josh Jacobs and the Packers face the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams’ defense has struggled across the board, so there’s an opportunity for Jacobs to shine. Most pundit’s think he is not good at football so I’ll hold judgement because he is in a great spot to smash!

Defense: Broncos ($2,900)

Denver Broncos Defense in Week 5:

The Broncos currently boast the third-best defense this season. Nothing else to say. Go Broncos!

How I did Boom or Bust; “Monday Morning Quarterbacking”

Hello, all it’s a Monday and time to look back and say to myself, what I should’ve, could’ve, and would’ve done differently, as a DFS player.

I used to spend most of my time looking forward to the next slate, the next season, and so forth. I find it equally important to stop, take a breath, and start looking back at the process that led me to a winning or losing lineup.

Here are some thoughts I had on this lineup

Quarterback:

I picked Joe Flacco as my top QB this week because of his ability to read pressure defenses and coverage’s, leading to more accurate passes. His experience and willingness to throw deep to his receivers made me believe it would benefit guys like Michael Pittman and Josh Downs, who I paired in a double stack. I also thought this would be a low-owned stack, allowing me to save salary for higher-priced RBs like Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs, who I expected to be in great spots for strong performances.

Flacco did perform well, scoring 30.56 fantasy points, but I was off on the supporting pieces. Alec Pierce and Mo Alie-Cox ended up being better value plays. Even then, this stack wouldn’t have won the Milly Maker. I needed around 70 DraftKings points from Flacco, Pittman, and Downs combined to stay competitive for a big score, but they only managed to deliver 61.16 points.

Running Backs:

Derrick Henry what happen? Derrick Henry was in a prime spot to dominate against the Cincinnati Bengals, and when he opened the scoring with a first-quarter touchdown, it looked like he was set for a big game. At that moment, I felt optimistic about my lineup’s chances.

However, that hope quickly faded as Henry’s production stalled, with minimal yardage for most of the game. Given his high price tag, I needed 30+ fantasy points from him, but it didn’t pan out. Thankfully, he broke off a 51-yard run on his last carry, which salvaged the lineup somewhat, but it was far from the smash I expected.

Then there was my beloved Bears running back, D’Andre Swift, who had me yelling at the screen, “Give the ball to D’Andre!” He rushed 21 times for 73 yards and a touchdown, but it felt like he was on the verge of a much bigger day. He had a touchdown run wiped out by a penalty and missed another chance when he tried to leap over the pile at the 1-yard line, coming up just short. That’s two TDs he could’ve had, and it would’ve been a huge fantasy day. Fantasy football really is a game of inches!

Wide Receivers:

My bring-back on this Flacco-led build was rookie sensation Brian Thomas Jr., a speedster who can really stretch the field. He put up 26.2 DraftKings points in a high-scoring 37-34 game. Thomas and Trevor Lawrence are starting to find their rhythm and build chemistry, and he’s now on a two-game touchdown streak. Can it continue in London next week against my beloved Bears, and their defense?

I envisioned the Colts vs. Jaguars game unfolding a bit differently. In my mind, Flacco would connect with Michael Pittman for 10 targets, over 100 yards, and 2 touchdowns. However, things didn’t go as I imagined. The Jaguars’ defense was suffocating, and Pittman struggled to get separation from his defenders. That said, he still managed to put up a serviceable performance, with 5 receptions and a TD.

Michael Pittman’s counterpart, Josh Downs, posted a solid 8-82-1 stat line in what turned out to be a high-scoring game. If Downs had managed a few more yards to hit the 100-yard bonus, my trio of Flacco, Pittman, and Downs would have been on pace to reach the 70 DraftKings points I was aiming for. That would have put me much closer to a tournament-winning score. Unfortunately, while Downs performed well, falling just short of the bonus kept my lineup from reaching its full potential.

Tight End:

Colby Parkinson became Matthew Stafford’s go-to option, drawing 13 targets with both Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua sidelined due to injury. With the Rams needing to generate offense from somewhere, Parkinson seemed like the perfect candidate to step up. However, despite all the targets, his longest gain of the day was just 9 yards, as he was primarily used in the short areas of the field. While the volume was there, the lack of big plays was a letdown, limiting his overall impact in what could have been a much bigger game. Bummer! My overall strategy was there the pieces just didn’t quite fall into place

Flex:

Josh Jacobs, RB for the Green Bay Packers, was part of a correlated lineup built around a QB double stack/bring back and three running backs. Jacobs was the third running back and looked to be in a great spot to smash. His final stat line was 20 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown. While I believed he’d get 10-20 touches, he only managed 73 yards with those opportunities. I’m starting to wonder, like some pundits, that this guy is just not good at football!

Defense:

The Broncos are a really good defense, they could have had an even better outing but in the first half they gave up 110 rushing yards. The second half, they clamped down, allowing the Raiders only 5 rushing yards.

The Broncos have a rookie sensation Pat Surtain II who picked off not one, but two passes from the Raiders. His 100-yard interception was return for a touchdown and solidified the big win for the Broncos and kept this lineup above water.

Overall, this was a crazy week of football a lot of high scoring games. This line-up did make some money, I entered it in not only the Milly Maker but also some small tourney it made money in. But, I’m greedy I want more! I can’t wait for week 6.
